Smart Agriculture – A Lever To Solve Acute Challenges
LATCAM was delighted to invite you to a webinar offered by our Patron Credit Suisse and featuring as speaker Eugène Klerk, Head of Credit Suisse’s Global ESG and Thematic Research.
If we focus solely on developing renewable energy (solar – hydrogen – wind turbine – E/V) we will never tackle the global warming issue. We also need to address the food system. The farm to fork, taking everything into consideration, accounts for 25% of global green-house gas emission. When adding the respective impact of a change in the way we diet, of smart agriculture and of alternative to protein, we could reduce by up to 70% the amount of land needed to feed 10bn people. Land owners could then turn to profitable new economic scheme.
In his presentation, Eugène Klerk tackled key growth areas such as vertical farming or precision agriculture and the positive economic impact of adopting technologies to enhance agricultural productivity.
Introductory remarks were addressed by LATCAM Board Member Jorge Fernández Amann, Head of International Wealth Management Latin America, Credit Suisse.
Eugène Klerk is a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the Securities Research Division, based in London. Following a career of more than 20 years in investment banking, fund management and research, he is currently responsible for Credit Suisse’s Global ESG research product. Prior to this, Eugène was responsible for the firms Global Thematic Research and European Small and Mid-Cap Research. In addition, Eugène is a frequent leading author in a range of publications from the Credit Suisse Research Institute.
Prior to his current roles, Eugène was an emerging markets analyst with a focus on fixed income and credit as well as on equities. During this period, Eugène frequently received top rankings from several surveys on his broader equity research product as well his work as an emerging markets telecom analyst. Eugène was responsible for Credit Suisse’s Emerging Markets Research in London before he joined Volteq Capital as CIO in 2004. In 2009, he rejoined Credit Suisse.
Eugène graduated from Twente University with a Masters in Applied Mathematics.
Jorge Fernández Amann is a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the International Wealth Management (IWM) division, based in Zurich. In September 2018, he became the head of IWM Latin America. Jorge joined Credit Suisse in 2016 as Head of Advisory & Sales for IWM LatAm.
His career in the financial sector spans over 20 years. Prior to working at Credit Suisse, Jorge was the Head of Investment Advisory LatAm at UBS in Zurich, before which he was Head of Investment Solutions Wealth Management in Mexico City. Earlier on, he spent more than 14 years working at Banco Santander in Madrid, where he was Head of Emerging Markets Equities in addition to a variety of other roles in Asset Management.
Jorge has a Master’s degree in Banking and Financial Markets from the University of Cantabria in Spain. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Law, combined with a diploma in Business and Economics, from the Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao, Spain.
