En las últimas décadas, la industria de los semiconductores ha evolucionado significativamente, concentrando más del 80% de la capacidad de fabricación en Asia, especialmente en Taiwán. Este sector, con un valor estimado de USD 611 mil millones anuales para 2024, muestra un crecimiento impulsado por la digitalización en diversos dispositivos. Sin embargo, enfrenta desafíos como las presiones recesivas y la fragmentación geopolítica. La cadena de valor de los semiconductores es altamente globalizada, con componentes que cruzan múltiples fronteras antes de ser productos terminados. China sigue siendo el principal consumidor, mientras que América Latina tiene una participación limitada, destacando Costa Rica, México y Brasil en actividades de empaque y prueba. La industria sigue evolucionando tecnológicamente, con empresas líderes como Intel, TSMC y Samsung dominando la fabricación de semiconductores de última generación.
